1. Dragon Bridge – when architecture breathes fire

dragon bridge da nang
Dragon Bridge at night

The Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng) isn’t just a bridge – it’s the symbol of Da Nang’s rise to modern metropolis. 666 metres long, designed in the shape of a winding dragon and completely gold. But the real spectacle begins at the weekend: Every Saturday and Sunday at 9pm, the dragon actually spits fire and water. 🐉🔥
The show lasts only about 3-4 minutes, but the atmosphere is electrifying. Thousands gather, street vendors sell snacks, and when flames shoot from the dragon’s mouth, the crowd erupts.

Practical info:

  • Location: Connects the city centre with the beach district, crossing the Han River
  • Best position: East side of the bridge, 20 minutes before the show starts
  • Cost: Free
  • Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: 5-minute walk

Insider tip: From TUI BLUE Han River, you’ve got a direct view of the illuminated bridge – perfect for long exposures without the crowds. After the show, stroll to the riverside promenade and treat yourself to a Cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk) for about a quid.

Photo spots: 📸 From Bach Dang Street (riverside promenade) or from the hotel’s rooftop pool – both perspectives are spectacular!

2. Marble Mountains – mystical caves in the sacred mountain

marmorberge da nang
The Marble Mountains near Da Nang

About 8 kilometres south of the city centre, five limestone peaks rise from the plain – the Marble Mountains (Ngũ Hành Sơn). Each mountain represents one of the five elements of Chinese philosophy: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Thủy Sơn (Water Mountain) is the largest and most impressive.
What makes this one of the best Da Nang things to do: a labyrinth of natural caves hiding Buddhist and Hindu sanctuaries. The Huyen Khong Cave is the highlight – when morning sunlight streams through the natural ceiling opening and illuminates the Buddha statues, it creates an almost spiritual atmosphere.

Practical info:

  • Opening hours: Daily 7:00am-5:30pm
  • Admission: 40,000 VND (approx. £1.30)
  • Lift: 15,000 VND (approx. 50p) – alternative to 156 steps
  • Duration: 2-3 hours
  • Distance from centre: 8 km, 20 minutes by Grab taxi (approx. 80,000 VND)
Best time: 7:30-8:30am – before the tour buses arrive and still pleasantly cool. The humidity can be brutal at midday.

What you must see:

  • Huyen Khong Cave – The cathedral among caves
  • Tang Chon Cave – Narrow passages, torch recommended
  • Linh Ung Pagoda – On the summit with sea views
  • Xa Loi Tower – 7-storey tower with 360° panorama

Culinary stop: At the foot of the mountains, food stalls sell Bánh xèo (crispy rice pancakes with prawns and sprouts). Freshly prepared, authentic and cheap – perfect after the climb! 🥢

Warning: Wear sturdy footwear! The paths can be slippery, and in some caves the ground is uneven.

3. Son Tra Peninsula – jungle, monkeys and Vietnam’s tallest Buddha statue

linh ung pagode
Linh Ung Pagoda

The Son Tra Peninsula is Da Nang’s green lung – a 4,439-hectare nature reserve that extends like a finger into the South China Sea. The 10-kilometre coastal road up is already an experience: dense primary forest on one side, turquoise sea on the other.
At the top sits Linh Ung Pagoda with the Lady Buddha – at 67 metres high, Vietnam’s tallest Buddha statue. The view from here is breathtaking: you overlook the entire Da Nang Bay, see the city, the Marble Mountains to the south and the endless sea. 🌅

Practical info:

  • Location: 10 km northeast of the city centre
  • Admission: Free
  • Getting there: Scooter (30 minutes) or Grab taxi (approx. 150,000 VND one-way)
  • Duration: 2-3 hours with stops
  • Best time: Early morning (6-8am) or late afternoon (4-6pm)

Wildlife highlight: Son Tra is home to about 300 red-shanked douc langurs – one of the world’s rarest monkey species. With a bit of luck, you’ll spot them in the trees. But careful: the macaques are used to humans and love pinching sunglasses, bags or snacks. Don’t feed them!

Hidden beaches:

Bai Bac (North Beach) – Secluded and unspoilt

Bai Nam (South Beach) – Small coves, crystal-clear water

Tien Sa Beach – Local secret with seafood restaurants

Important: If you’re riding a scooter yourself, you need an international driving licence Class A. Police actually do check here, and fines are hefty (approx. 500,000-1,000,000 VND).

Combine it: Many people do half a day at Son Tra plus half a day at My Khe Beach – perfect mix of nature and relaxation.

4. Ba Na Hills & Golden Bridge – Asia’s most famous hands

The Ba Na Hills are surreal. You ride one of the world’s longest cable cars (5,801 metres!) to 1,500 metres altitude and land in a French mountain village – in the middle of the Vietnamese jungle. Gothic cathedral, wine cellar, flower gardens, a complete amusement park. And then: the Golden Bridge. 🌉
Two gigantic stone hands hold a golden bridge that seems to float through the clouds. Since opening in 2018, it’s become one of Asia’s most photographed spots – and rightly so. The view from up here is spectacular, especially when the clouds hang low.

Practical info:

  • Location: 25 km west of Da Nang in the Trường Sơn Mountains
  • Opening hours: 7:00am-10:00pm (cable car from 7am)
  • Admission: 800,000 VND (approx. £26) including cable car and all attractions
  • Getting there: Grab taxi (45 minutes, approx. 300,000 VND) or booked tour
  • Duration: At least 5-6 hours

The reality: It’s busy. Very busy. At weekends and Vietnamese holidays, the queue for the cable car can be 2-3 hours. But with the right strategy, it’s manageable:

Pro strategy:

  1. Arrive at 7am – Be one of the first on the cable car
  2. Weekdays are 50% less busy than weekends
  3. Avoid Vietnamese holidays (Tet Festival, National Day on 30 April, Reunification Day)
  4. Go to the Golden Bridge first – before the masses arrive
  5. Plan 5-6 hours – there’s lots to see

What you’ll find up there:

  • Golden Bridge – The main attraction
  • French Village – Replica of an alpine mountain village
  • Fantasy Park – Indoor amusement park (included in admission)
  • Linh Ung Pagoda – With 27-metre-high Buddha statue
  • Debay Wine Cellar – Historic wine cellar from colonial times
  • Le Jardin D’Amour – Flower gardens with 9 different themed areas

Food: There are several restaurants up top, but prices are touristy (150,000-300,000 VND per dish). Better to have a proper breakfast at TUI BLUE Han River – the buffet is brilliant and included in the price! 🍳

Photography tip: 📸 For the perfect Golden Bridge photo without people: arrive at 7:30am or go back around 5pm (most day-trippers have left by then).

5. Hội An – the lantern town to fall in love with (UNESCO World Heritage)

Hoi An Vietnam Laternen
So beautiful! Colourful lanterns everywhere.

Right, Hội An is technically 30 kilometres south of Da Nang – but you absolutely can’t miss this attraction! The UNESCO World Heritage old town is like time travel: yellow colonial buildings from the 16th century, hundreds of colourful lanterns reflected in the Thu Bon River, and an atmosphere that instantly slows you down.
Hội An was once one of Southeast Asia’s most important trading ports. Chinese, Japanese, Dutch and French merchants left their mark – and it’s precisely this cultural mix that creates the town’s charm.

Practical info:

  • Distance from Da Nang: 30 km, 40-minute journey
  • Old town admission: 120,000 VND (approx. £4) for 5 historic sites
  • Getting there: Grab taxi (approx. 250,000 VND), booked tour or hotel shuttle
  • Best time: Arrive in the afternoon, stay until evening
  • Duration: At least half a day, better a full day

What you must see:

  • Japanese Bridge (Chùa Cầu) – The landmark, built in 1593
  • Tan Ky Old House – 200-year-old merchant house
  • Phuc Kien Assembly Hall – Chinese temple with magnificent architecture
  • Old town at night – When the lanterns light up, it’s magical 🏮

In the evening: When the lanterns glow and the town is bathed in warm light, you’ll understand why Hội An is on every Vietnam bucket list. The atmosphere is indescribable – romantic, peaceful, timeless.

Culinary highlight: You absolutely must try Cao Lầu – a noodle speciality that exists ONLY in Hội An. The water for the noodles supposedly comes from the Ba Le well, and the preparation is a closely guarded secret. The Morning Glory Restaurant (by chef Ms. Vy) is legendary, but the food stalls at Central Market are fantastic too.

Shopping: Hội An is famous for its tailors. Within 24 hours, they’ll make you bespoke suits, dresses or shoes – for a fraction of European prices. Quality varies greatly, so check reviews first.

My tip: Book a half-day tour from Da Nang (many hotels offer this) or take a Grab taxi. Plan at least 5-6 hours – the sights during the day, the lantern atmosphere in the evening.

6. Hai Van Pass – Vietnam’s most spectacular coastal road

hai van pass
Serpentines of Hai Van Pass

The Hai Van Pass (Đèo Hải Vân, “Ocean Cloud Pass”) is legendary. Top Gear called it “one of the world’s most beautiful coastal roads”, and they were right. The 20-kilometre serpentine road winds over a 496-metre-high mountain ridge between Da Nang and Hue – and the views are breathtaking. 🏍️
On one side, the turquoise South China Sea, on the other green mountains, and you in between on a winding road that snakes through the clouds. At the top of the pass stands an old French fort from 1826 – perfect for a break and panoramic photos.

Practical info:

  • Distance from Da Nang: 30 km north
  • Length of pass road: 21 km
  • Highest point: 496 metres
  • Cost: Free (no toll)
  • Best time: Early morning (6-9am) – when the clouds still hang low

How to get there?

  1. Scooter tour: The ultimate experience! Many travellers rent a scooter (150,000-200,000 VND/day) and ride themselves. Warning: International driving licence Class A required!
  2. Guided motorbike tour: Easy Rider tours (approx. 50-80 USD) – experienced drivers, you sit on the back
  3. Taxi/Grab: Also possible (approx. 500,000 VND for return trip with waiting time)
  4. Organised tour: Many hotels offer day tours

Combination options:

  • Lang Co Beach – Stunning beach at the foot of the pass (south side)
  • Hue – The old imperial city, 100 km north (day trip possible)
  • Lap An Lagoon – Hidden lagoon with turquoise water

Important: The road is winding and can be slippery when wet. If you’re riding yourself: drive slowly, wear a helmet, ride defensively (Vietnamese traffic!).

Photo spots: 📸

  • Old French fort at the top (360° panorama)
  • Photograph the serpentine curves from above
  • Lang Co Beach from the pass (south side)

Culinary tip: At the top of the pass, small stalls sell fresh coconuts (20,000 VND) and grilled corn. Simple, but just right after the ride!

7. My Khe Beach – one of Asia’s most beautiful beaches

my khe beach da nang
My Khe Beach in Da Nang

After all those temples, mountains and bridges, you might just need… beach. And My Khe Beach delivers! Forbes Magazine once called it “one of the world’s most beautiful beaches”, and whilst that might have been marketing – it’s definitely stunning. 🏖️
6 kilometres of fine white sand, clear water, gentle waves and a relaxed atmosphere. Unlike the overcrowded beaches in Nha Trang or Phu Quoc, it’s still relatively peaceful here – at least during the week.

Practical info:

  • Location: East of the city centre, along Võ Nguyên Giáp Street
  • Length: Approx. 6 km
  • Admission: Free
  • Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: 3 km, 10 minutes by taxi
  • Best time: Early morning or late afternoon (too hot at midday)

What you can do here:

  • Swimming – Waves are moderate, suitable for families too
  • Learn to surf – Several surf schools offer lessons (approx. 500,000 VND/2 hours)
  • Beach walk – From My Khe Beach to Dragon Bridge (approx. 30 minutes)
  • Chill – Sometimes the best option!

Beach clubs & restaurants:

  • Waterfront Restaurant & Bar – Upscale dining with sea views
  • Soul Kitchen – Relaxed beach bar with good music
  • Small beach shacks – Grilled squid, fresh seafood, ice-cold beer

Culinary tip: The small beach shacks sell grilled squid (Mực nướng) – freshly caught, grilled over charcoal, with peanuts and chilli. Add an ice-cold Bia Saigon or Bia Hoi (local draught beer, approx. 5,000 VND = 20p!). Together it costs about 100,000 VND (£3.20) and tastes like pure holiday! 🦑🍺

From the hotel: From TUI BLUE Han River, it’s only 10 minutes by taxi to the beach – perfect for spontaneous beach sessions after breakfast or before sunset.

Safety: My Khe Beach has lifeguards, but watch for the flags. When the red flag’s up, don’t go in the water – currents can be strong!

8. Da Nang Cathedral – pink colonial charm in the heart of the city

Kathedrale von Da Nang
Da Nang Cathedral

Right in the hustle and bustle of the city centre stands Da Nang Cathedral (Nhà thờ Chính tòa Đà Nẵng), affectionately called “Con Gà Church” (Rooster Church) – because of the rooster on the tower spire. What’s special? It’s completely painted pink – an Instagram dream and one of the city’s most photogenic buildings! 💗
The cathedral was built in 1923 by French colonists and is a lovely example of Vietnam’s colonial architecture. The neo-Gothic style with its 70-metre-high bell tower recalls French village churches – just in pink.

Practical info:

  • Location: 156 Trần Phú Street, city centre
  • Opening hours: Daily 6:00am-5:00pm (except during services)
  • Masses: Monday-Saturday 5:00am & 5:00pm, Sunday 5:00am, 6:30am, 9:30am, 3:30pm, 5:00pm, 6:30pm
  • Admission: Free
  • Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: 2 km, 5 minutes by taxi

Inside: Surprisingly simple, but the atmosphere is peaceful – a welcome break from the hectic city life outside. Colourful stained-glass windows cast coloured light patterns onto the pews.

Best time for photos: 📸 Early morning (7-9am) or late afternoon (4-6pm), when the light is softer. At midday, the sun beats down mercilessly on the pink façade – not ideal for photos.

Combine it: Directly opposite is a small park with benches – perfect for a quick break. And just a 5-minute walk away is the Cham Museum – ideal for half a day of culture.

Local tip: Around the cathedral, you’ll find small cafés serving Bánh mì pâté (baguette with pâté) – a French-Vietnamese classic for about a quid. Perfect snack between sightseeing! 🥖

9. Cham Museum – the world’s largest collection of Cham culture

Chamskulpturen im Museum
Cham sculptures in the museum

The Museum of Cham Sculpture (Bảo tàng Điêu khắc Chăm Đà Nẵng) is a must for history buffs. It houses the world’s most significant collection of Cham art – over 300 sculptures in sandstone and terracotta dating from the 7th to 15th centuries.
The Cham were a Hindu-Buddhist people who ruled the Kingdom of Champa in Central Vietnam from the 2nd to 15th centuries. Their art is impressive: intricate reliefs of gods, dancers (apsaras), mythological creatures and everyday scenes.

Practical info:

  • Location: 02 Trung Nữ Vương Street, on the Han River
  • Opening hours: Daily 7:00am-5:00pm
  • Admission: 60,000 VND (approx. £1.90) – a bargain!
  • Audio guide: Free (English, French, Vietnamese)
  • Duration: 1-1.5 hours
  • Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: 1.5 km, 5 minutes by taxi

Collection highlights:

  • Tra Kieu Altar – From the 10th century, with detailed reliefs
  • Apsara dancers – Celestial dancers in elegant poses
  • Shiva statues – The Hindu god in various forms
  • My Son collection – Sculptures from the famous temple complex

Why it’s worth it: If you later visit My Son (the Cham temple ruins, 70 km southwest), you’ll understand the architecture and symbolism much better. The museum gives you the cultural context.

Tip: Take the free audio guide – the background information makes the exhibition much more fascinating. Without explanations, they’re “just” old stones; with context, it becomes captivating.

Afterwards: Just a few steps away is Bé Mặn Restaurant – authentic Vietnamese cuisine without the tourist markup. Try the Bún chả cá (fish soup with rice noodles and dill) – a local favourite for about 50,000 VND (£1.60)! 🍜

10. Han River Promenade – light displays and joie de vivre

promenade da nang
Along the promenade in Da Nang

When the sun sets, the Han River Promenade comes alive. The riverside promenade along the Hàn River is Da Nang’s beating heart – a place where locals jog, families stroll, street vendors offer their snacks and tourists marvel at the illuminated bridges. ✨

What you’ll experience here:

  • Illuminated bridges: Dragon Bridge, Han River Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge – all glowing in changing colours
  • Han River Bridge: Actually rotates at 11pm to let large ships through (spectacular!)
  • Street vendors: Fresh coconuts, grilled corn, fruit
  • River cruises: Boats with dinner or drinks (approx. 100,000-300,000 VND)
  • Locals exercising: Joggers, tai chi groups, aerobics classes

Practical info:

Location: Along the Han River, both riverbanks

Best time: 6:00pm-10:00pm

Cost: Free (except river cruise)

Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: Right on your doorstep!

My evening ritual: From TUI BLUE Han River, you’ve got the perfect view of the light display. Grab a cocktail at the rooftop bar, lean back and enjoy the show. Sometimes that’s the best attraction of all – just watching, soaking up the atmosphere and letting the day wash over you. 🍹

Alternatively: Take a river cruise (approx. 1 hour). The illuminated bridges look completely different from below, and many boats offer dinner or live music.

Photography tip: 📸 Long exposures from the riverbank – the light trails of boats on the water look fantastic. Best spots: Bach Dang Street or directly from the hotel.

11. Son Tra Night Market – street food heaven for foodies

sin tra nachtmarkt
Son Tra Night Market

If you want to experience authentic Vietnamese street food, there’s no way around Son Tra Night Market. This isn’t a polished tourist market – here you eat side by side with locals on plastic stools, and the prices are unbeatable. 🍢

The atmosphere is pure Vietnam: steaming pots, the sizzle of grills, motorbike noise, laughter and the scent of lemongrass, chilli and grilled meat. Here you taste Da Nang as it really is.

Practical info:

  • Location: Junction of Hoàng Sa & Trường Sa Street (Sơn Trà district)
  • Opening hours: Daily 5:00pm-11:00pm (many pack up after 10pm)
  • Best time: 7:00pm-9:00pm
  • Cost: 20,000-50,000 VND per dish (65p-£1.60!)
  • Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: 4 km, 10 minutes by Grab

What you absolutely must try:

Bánh mì – The Vietnamese baguette sandwich is legendary. Crispy bread (thanks, French colonial times!), filled with grilled pork, pâté, pickled vegetables, coriander and chilli. Costs about 20,000 VND (65p!) and is incredibly delicious. You’ll recognise the best bánh mì seller by the longest queue.

Bún bò Huế – A spicy beef soup from the imperial city of Hue. Hot, aromatic, with lemongrass and shrimp paste. Perfect for cooler evenings (yes, they exist in Vietnam too!).

Nem lụi – Grilled meat skewers made from minced pork, served with rice paper, fresh herbs and peanut sauce. You roll your own spring rolls – interactive and delicious!

Chè – Vietnamese dessert with coconut milk, sweet beans, jelly, fruit and crushed ice. Sounds odd, tastes brilliant! Perfect after all that spicy food.

Grilled seafood – Fresh prawns, squid, mussels – grilled directly over charcoal. With an ice-cold Bia Hoi (local draught beer, approx. 5,000 VND = 20p!).

How it works: Just sit down at a stall, point at what looks good (or what others are eating), and let yourself be surprised. Vendors usually don’t speak English, but with hand gestures it always works. You pay at the end.

Hygiene tip: Choose stalls where lots of locals are eating – that’s always a good sign. Avoid raw vegetables if you have a sensitive stomach. And: only drink water from sealed bottles!

Atmosphere: This is Vietnam in its purest form! No Instagram aesthetics, no hipster vibes – just honest, delicious food and real people. That’s exactly why I love this place.

12. Han Market – local market bustle and souvenirs

Han-Markt
Authentic Vietnamese flair at Han Market

Han Market (Chợ Hàn) is Da Nang’s largest and oldest market – a three-storey building full of life, colours and smells. Here locals buy their food, clothes and household goods – but there’s plenty for tourists to discover too.

Practical info:

  • Location: 119 Trần Phú Street, city centre
  • Opening hours: Daily 6:00am-7:00pm
  • Best time: Early morning (7-9am) – most authentic atmosphere
  • Distance from TUI BLUE Han River: 2 km, 5 minutes by taxi

What you’ll find here:

Ground floor: Fresh food – fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, spices. The smells are… intense. But fascinating! Here you’ll see things you’ve never seen before (and perhaps can’t identify 😅).

First floor: Clothing, fabrics, shoes. Lots of mass-produced goods, but with patience you’ll also find handmade silk scarves or Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dresses).

Second floor: Souvenirs, handicrafts, coffee, tea. Here’s where you buy your gifts:

  • Vietnamese coffee – Robusta beans, strong and aromatic
  • Cashew nuts – Vietnam is the world’s largest exporter
  • Silk scarves – Handmade, beautiful patterns
  • Ceramics – Bowls, cups, vases
  • Spices – Star anise, cinnamon, lemongrass

Haggling is mandatory! Initial prices are often 2-3 times higher than what locals pay. Rule of thumb: offer 50% of the quoted price and meet somewhere in the middle. Stay friendly and smile – haggling here is a game, not a battle.

Culinary tip: On the ground floor, there are small food stalls serving Mì Quảng – a noodle speciality from Central Vietnam with yellowish noodles, pork, prawns, peanuts and herbs. Authentic, cheap (30,000 VND) and delicious! 🍜

Warning: As with all markets: watch your valuables. Pickpockets are rare, but not impossible. Wear your rucksack in front, don’t keep your phone in your back pocket.

Your home base: TUI BLUE Han River – central, comfortable, perfect

After all those adventures, you need a place to breathe – and that’s exactly what TUI BLUE Han River offers. The location right on the river is unbeatable: Dragon Bridge on your doorstep, My Khe Beach 10 minutes away, airport round the corner, old town reachable in 5 minutes.

Why TUI BLUE is the perfect choice:

Location, location, location: You’re in the thick of it, but not in the chaos. From the rooftop pool, you see the Dragon Bridge; from your room, the Han River. All Da Nang things to do are within 10-30 minutes.

Rooftop pool with views: After a hot day at the Marble Mountains or Ba Na Hills, there’s nothing better than the rooftop pool. Views over the city, cocktail in hand, sunset over the river – perfect! 🏊‍♂️🍹

BLUEf!t® programme: If you fancy some exercise between all that eating (I know, difficult with such good street food 😅) – the fitness programme offers yoga, workouts and more.

Regional cuisine: The restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese dishes with a modern twist. Mornings there’s a generous breakfast buffet – perfect for starting the day energised. Evenings you can choose between Vietnamese and international cuisine.

Spa & wellness: After a day on a scooter or hiking through the Marble Mountains, you definitely need a massage! The spa offers traditional Vietnamese massages and treatments.

For families: Children stay free – a real bonus if you’re travelling with the whole family. The hotel is family-friendly, but not overrun with kids.

Service: The staff are helpful and speak English. They’re happy to arrange tours, taxis, restaurant reservations – everything you need.

The vibe: Modern, but not sterile. Central, but not noisy. Comfortable, but not overly luxurious. Just right for travellers who want to experience Da Nang authentically, but need a comfortable retreat in the evenings.

Practical tips for your Da Nang stay

Best time to visit Da Nang

February to May: The ideal time! Dry weather, pleasant temperatures (25-30°C), fewer tourists than in high season (July-August). The sea is calm, perfect for swimming. April 2026 is perfect – stable weather, moderate prices, pleasant visitor numbers.

June to August: High season – hot (up to 35°C), busy, more expensive. But: best beach weather!

September to January: Rainy season – especially avoid October and November. Heavy rainfall, sometimes typhoons, many attractions (Ba Na Hills) can be closed.

My tip: March or April – perfect weather, moderate prices, pleasant visitor numbers. 🌤️

Getting to Da Nang

Da Nang International Airport (DAD): Served by many airlines – Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways (domestic), plus international connections via Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong.

From Europe: Usually with a stopover (Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City). Total flight time approx. 12-15 hours.

From airport to city centre: Only 3 km! Grab taxi costs approx. 60,000-90,000 VND (£1.90-£2.90), journey time 10-15 minutes. Many hotels offer free airport transfer – ask beforehand!

Getting around Da Nang

Grab app: Your best friend! Works like Uber – reliable, cheap, no haggling needed. A journey across the city rarely costs more than 90,000 VND (£2.90). Grab Food is also available for food delivery.

Scooter rental: Many travellers rent a scooter (180,000-250,000 VND/day). Important: You need an international driving licence Class A! Police checks are frequent, fines hefty (600,000-1,200,000 VND). Helmet is mandatory!

Taxi: Vinasun and Mai Linh are reputable taxi companies. Insist on the meter! Or just use Grab.

On foot: The city centre is compact – many attractions (Dragon Bridge, Cathedral, Han Market) are within walking distance. But: heat and humidity can be exhausting.

Money & costs

Currency: Vietnamese dong (VND). £1 ≈ 31,000 VND (as of April 2026). The notes have lots of zeros – a 500,000 VND note is about £16.

ATMs: Available everywhere. Withdrawal limit usually 3,000,000-5,000,000 VND per transaction. Fees: approx. 55,000 VND per withdrawal (from Vietnamese bank) + your bank’s fees.

Credit cards: Accepted in hotels, larger restaurants and shopping malls. Street food and small shops cash only!

Price examples (April 2026):

  • Bánh mì: 25,000 VND (80p)
  • Local restaurant: 60,000-120,000 VND (£1.90-£3.90)
  • Upscale restaurant: 250,000-600,000 VND (£8-£19)
  • Beer (restaurant): 35,000-60,000 VND (£1.10-£1.90)
  • Grab ride (5 km): 60,000-90,000 VND (£1.90-£2.90)
  • Massage (1 hour): 250,000-350,000 VND (£8-£11)

Language & communication

Vietnamese is the national language – a tonal language that’s difficult for Europeans to learn. But don’t worry:

English: Basic English is spoken in tourist areas. Hotels, restaurants, tour operators – usually no problem. At markets and with street vendors, it gets trickier.

Grab app helps: You don’t need to haggle or explain where you want to go – the app does it.

Useful phrases:

  • Xin chào (sin chao) = Hello
  • Cảm ơn (gam uhn) = Thank you
  • Không, cảm ơn = No, thank you
  • Bao nhiêu tiền? = How much does it cost?
  • Ngon quá! = Very delicious!

A few words of Vietnamese will earn you lots of goodwill and smiles! 😊

Safety & health

Da Nang is safe! Vietnam has one of the lowest crime rates in Southeast Asia. But as everywhere:

Watch out for:

  • Pickpockets at markets (rare, but possible)
  • Overpriced taxis (use Grab!)
  • Fake police trying to collect “fines” (real police give receipts)

Health:

  • Don’t drink tap water! Only water from sealed bottles.
  • Sun protection: The sun is brutal – SPF 50+, hat, sunglasses.
  • Travel pharmacy: Anti-diarrhoea medication, painkillers, mosquito repellent, plasters.
  • Dengue fever: Transmitted by mosquitoes – long clothing in the evenings, mosquito repellent.
  • Travel insurance: Absolutely essential! Medical care is good (Vinmec Da Nang International Hospital), but expensive without insurance.

Conclusion: Da Nang – where modernity meets tradition

Da Nang has evolved from a sleepy coastal town to one of Vietnam’s most exciting destinations – and rightly so. The Da Nang things to do offer a perfect mix: futuristic bridges like the Dragon Bridge, mystical caves in the Marble Mountains, spectacular views from Hai Van Pass, cultural treasures in the Cham Museum and relaxing beach days at My Khe Beach.

What makes the city so special: you can wander through centuries-old temples in the morning, chill at the beach at midday, ride over Vietnam’s most spectacular coastal road in the afternoon and eat authentic street food at a local market in the evening – all in one day, all from one central home base.

TUI BLUE Han River is the perfect starting point: centrally located on the river, with views of the Dragon Bridge, modern comfort and the relaxed vibe you need after eventful days. From here, you explore Da Nang like a local – knowing that in the evening, a comfortable bed, a pool with views and perhaps a well-deserved massage await you.

So, pack your camera, don’t forget the sun cream and off you go! Da Nang is waiting to surprise you. And I promise: you’ll understand why more and more travellers stay here longer than originally planned. 🌴✨
