26 Aug Active holidays in Austria made by TUI BLUE

Schladming – this is a term every skier in Austria knows. The end of November starts the ski season in Schladming and World Cup races are even held here. Of course, I couldn’t wait for the summer to end to test the future TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming. The town in Styria, Austria is located 90 km from Salzburg. The hotel is located right at the foot of the funicular railway, so it’s perfect for winter enthusiasts. But even in the summer, it’s absolutely recommended.

TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming – a place to relax

TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming outdoor terrace

TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming is definitely not a plush alpine hotel with geranium balconies. It’s modern and straight forward with no frills, but still feel comfortable. And why does it have the name “PULSE” in there? Unlike “normal” TUI BLUE hotels, PULSE hotels have 3 stars and focus on an active holiday with activities around the hotel rather than at the hotel itself. Of course, the rooms still look nice, the food is regionally inspired with vegan and low-carb options, and there are still BLUE guides who are well versed in the area. There’s even a spa with a sauna, steam bath, and infrared cabin, and a rooftop terrace with views of the Dachstein-Tauern and Planai Mountain there. What it does not have: The BLUEf!t fitness program with a trainer and equipment. Why is that? Your gym is located on your doorstep, is several thousand meters high, and consists of 860 km slopes, 920 km of mountain bike routes, 1,000 km of hiking trails … and if you still want to take a course, there are Schladming ski schools, climbing schools, etc. Although Schladming is small, it has everything and it’s all just around the corner.

Snow-covered mountain in Schladming

How might a day in TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming look? In winter, their breakfast buffet will fill you up (the egg dishes are great!) before you head to the slopes. The hotel has its own secret passage leading to the valley station at Planai-Bahn. From the Planai, 1,906 meters high, you have access to the 4-mountain ski area. The Schladming-Dachstein region is also part of Ski Amadé, and with a ski pass you can use the lifts in 5 different skiing regions in Austria. You can also do cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, tobogganing, or whatever fun you want to have in the snow. Or you can relax in the Finnish sauna with mountain views. For the party animals: Après-Ski in Schladming is also within walking distance. It’s an adult hotel with a minimum age of 15.

Schladming is also open in summer!Scrambled eggs at TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming

A holiday in the Schladming-Dachstein region is just as good during the summer. Upon check-in at the hotel you are handed the Schladming Dachstein Summer Card and information booklet. It is included in an overnight stay at TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming. The card can be used for cable cars, toll roads, adventure parks, swimming pools, and much more for free or a reduced price during the summer. So that’s the dilemma: Everything sounds awesome and you’re not sure what you want to do first. So much to do and so little time. Dachstein Glacier or hiking on the Planai? How hard is the hiking trail called “Wild Water”? I just asked Martin, who has the makings of a BLUE Guide, at the front desk for some tips. Martin knows everything about the area and advised us to definitely visit the Dachstein Glacier; he even booked us places in the cable car. A great tip; where else am I going to see snow in July? With the Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card we saved 36 euros on the cable car and a few euros on the toll road. Now, I could probably write a novel about what you can see and do in and around Schladming. The Alps are absolutely stunning whether you’re a leisurely hiker or hardcore downhill mountain biker – I can’t imagine being bored here. Learn more about everything you can do here on the TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming website.

And dinner? Regional influences, just like in TUI BLUE. I as a non-Austrian, I was secretly glad for the English translation, and now I know that “karfiol” is cauliflower. The multi-course dinner was delicious and you should definitely try the Austrian wines. The staff are a warm and experienced team. Make yourself at home with this likeable dialect … I’ll be right back! We’ve gathered all the other information on the TUI BLUE PULSE Schladming for you on the TUI BLUE website. Although the winter seems far away still, you should book now. Schladming is a very popular winter destination.

When Miri isn't working on the TUI BLUE website or the blog, she's traveling around the world. She loves good food, hammocks, and kitschy sunsets.
